Tyrone Crystal
In 1968, Father Austin Eustace (a Catholic priest) labored in Dungannon, County Tyrone,Ireland, where, at the time there was 30% unemployment. Father Eustace had a
dream to put the young men of the town to work (many for the first time since finishing school). He went to Cleveland, Ohio to raise money by selling investment into a new crystal factoryThus a tradition hand craft that spanned 200 years was returned to this town; since back in 1771 the first crystal factory in Ireland was founded in Dungannon, County Tyrone. The distinctive properties of Tyrone Crystal are derived from a closely guarded secret formula for molten
metal, well in excess of 30% lead oxide, (this give crystal it clarity, sparkle and brilliance).
This enables it to merit a status of "full lead crystal superior" in international standards. The craftsmen
at Tyrone Crystal take pride in their highly skilled craft which resulted from years of training and dedication alongside the finest craftsmen in Ireland. When his Holiness Pope John
Paul II visited Ireland in 1979, it was a piece of Tyrone Crystal that was
presented to him as the official gift from the people of Ireland. Tyrone crystal is alive and well after 22 years and has been a tremendous success since being introduced to the U.S.A.in 1982. Tyrone Crystal has received the coveted BS5750/ISO 9000 Award. This award is given only to factories that have met the highest standards of Quality, Craftsmanship & Factory Service. In January of 1990 a new 100,000 square foot Tyrone Crystal factory was completed, doubling the work force in the area, furthering Fr. Eustace's dream!
